Manitou Dorado Expert: How It Damps

Air-spring main with adjustable compression and rebound damping clickers on each leg. Fitment runs across the Talaria Sting platform, with model-specific notes below.

Adjustability Profile
Difficulty: Advanced. Full front-end disassembly: bars off, brake line clip released, wheel removed, old fork unbolted, new Dorado fitted with matching yoke set. Tools: Torque wrench, hex keys, soft-jaw vice, shock pump for air pressure. Time: 2-3 hours. Set initial air pressure per rider weight (Manitou’s rider-weight chart is published in the Dorado service manual). Configure compression and rebound clickers to mid-range; fine-tune after the first ride.
Frequently Asked
How does Dorado Expert compare to FastAce Red Cap (SKU 1559)?
The Dorado is a dual-crown air-spring fork at $1,100; FastAce Red Cap is a single-crown upside-down with damping clickers at $500. Dorado has more steering rigidity at speed (dual-crown), more refined damping, and air-spring tuning. FastAce is half the price and adequate for casual trail use. Pick Dorado for hard motocross and downhill; pick FastAce for moderate trail.
Do I need a special yoke for the Dorado?
Yes — Dorado fits standard Dorado-spec yoke. If your bike came with the Dorado factory-fitted, you already have the right yoke. If converting from RST or FastAce, you’ll need to source the Dorado yoke set separately.
How often should the Dorado be serviced?
Annual oil and seal refresh for active riders. Air-pressure check before every ride or two. Full damper rebuild every 100 hours of hard riding — Manitou or a certified suspension shop.
Trust Signals & Warranty
